1The challenge
Adding a language is more than translating text. For Solo Solis, each new store needed:
- Its own store view, language pack and currency.
- Every CMS page, block and the mega menu copied and translated.
- A switcher that makes country and currency clear.
- A way to review the store before customers can see it.
Store views in Magento
Magento can serve many languages and countries from one installation through store views. They share products and stock but have their own language, currency and content. Set up well, adding a new market becomes a repeatable process instead of a new project.
2Our approach
We created all new store views in one go and prepared them for translation, with tooling that lets the content be translated in bulk.
Store views in one go
Romanian, Hungarian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Norwegian, Japanese, Czech and Danish store views, each with its language pack and settings.
Currency that fits
A default currency per country, currency matched to the visitor’s location and a restyled country and currency switcher with new flags.
Bulk translation
API access for CMS pages, blocks and categories, so translations are processed in bulk instead of page by page.
A safe launch
Visitors of a new store see a coming soon page until it is ready, while the team reviews it.
3The result
Solo Solis went from plan to eight new language stores in one project. Content is translated in bulk rather than page by page, and each store can go live as soon as its content is approved. The same approach is ready for the next market.
Also used for: Maxifleur’s Polish store, which was prepared the same way behind a coming soon page.
?Frequently asked questions about multi-language Magento
Do I need a separate webshop for each language?
No. Magento store views let one installation serve many languages and currencies, sharing products and stock.
How do you translate hundreds of pages?
Through the Magento REST API. Content is exported, translated and uploaded in bulk, instead of edited page by page.
Can we review a new language before it goes live?
Yes. New stores show a coming soon page to visitors while the team reviews the content.
What about SEO for new languages?
Each store gets hreflang tags pointing to the other languages, so search engines show the right version in each country.
